5 lessons that FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano teaches us about faith

RJ Jabeguero-Rodillo March 28,2018 12:59 PM

Despite all its nightly hair-raising thrill, suspense and action, ABS-CBN’s phenomenal series, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano remains an insightful family drama that mirrors two core values of the Filipinos -- the immeasurable love for family and our fervent faith in God that keeps us hopeful amid hopelessness.

This Lent, let our favorite guilty-pleasure (admit it or not!) inspire us to spend our purposeful break to reflect and strengthen our faith especially in times of uncertainties, danger, and despair.

1. Faith brings us seconds chances

As the saying goes, “God is not only the God of second chances; He is the God of another chance.” In the series, we see how Cardo (played by Coco Martin) seeks God’s grace for all his new missions amid his quest to help justice prevail.

2. A strong family is strong faith personified

Undoubtedly, Cardo’s primary source of strength is his family. But what makes his family strong is their unfailing belief that God will never leave them no matter what.

3. Filipino’s childlike faith

Aside from Cardo and Lola Flora (played by Susan Roces), another set of key characters in the show are the kids, who give the viewers a constant reminder to have a childlike faith – humble, honest trust in God that He will do what He thinks is best for us.

4. When in despair, there’s no other way but God.

While the viewers turned to social media to sympathize with the broken-hearted Cardo after his wife, Alyana (played by Yassi Pressman) splits up with him, the show’s hero turned to no one else but God. With his dire misery, Cardo just knelt on his knee and asked for a miracle of reconciliation.

5. The show’s theme song, “’Wag Ka Nang Umiyak” is a strong faith booster itself

For loyal viewers, the tear-jerker “Wag Ka Nang Umiyak” (with versions by Gary Valenciano and KZ Tandingan) has become their “fight song” and even a praise theme during their darkest hours.

For some people, they hear the voice of God through the lyrics encouraging and comforting them not to give up and just cling on Him.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." - Deuteronomy 31:6
