Having an accomplished father like famous comedian and TV host Jose Manalo has its gains and downsides. However, his equally talented and funny sons Nicco and Benj opt to stay away from his shadow and make a name for themselves in their own ways.

Currently known as Pinggoy Tanyag, the ever-dependable cameraman and confidant of Alyanna Arevalo-Dalisay, Yassi Pressman’s character in the primetime cop series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, Benj’s penchant for performing sparked when he was still a kid and got inspired by his Kuya Nicco who was then taught by a personal dance instructor.

When he was 18, Benj joined a reality show in a rival network and became one of their talents. After his stint there, he focused on dancing and even became a member of the well-regarded hip-hop dance troupe Philippine All Stars and later on formed a college-based dance group.

Benj went back to acting in 2015 through Philippine Educational Theater Association’s (PETA) hit original musical Rak of Aegis. In his major theater debut, he was picked as the third alternate for the role of the lovestruck boatman Tolits, which was originally played by Jerald Napoles and Pepe Herrera.

He eventually became visible onscreen as part of the Kapamilya teleseryes On the Wings of Love (where he played as James Reid’s sidekick Axl), The Story of Us, and My Super D.

On the other hand, Nicco boasts a prolific track record in theater and independent cinema, which started when he was still 20 years old.

He was part of several theater productions, including Three Stars and A Sun and Mula sa Buwan, and is credited in some numerable notable indie flicks, such as Tuhog, Zombadings, Barber’s Tales, and Ang Kuwento Nating Dalawa. But it was in the 2014 Cinemalaya entry The Janitor where he clinched the Best Supporting Actor award.

We see him everyday as Gerald Anderson’s best friend Olsen in the daytime soap opera Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin.

In separate media interviews, the siblings implied that their dad advised them that if they want to do something, they should do it on their own. He chose not to back them up because he doesn’t want to feel that he’s obliged to help them since he is already in the industry.

However, they’re thankful for his unwavering support and passing on the humorous genes to them which made effortlessly nail their comedy scenes and gigs.

We’re looking forward on seeing more the Manalo Brothers in the Kapamilya network’s future projects or maybe in a collaboration with their dad.
