What happens when a young talent, who makes whistling notes appear effortless, joins forces with a thespian who skillfully belts out, as if you are watching a West End musical?
We can only imagine a marvelous night of world-class performances.
Good thing, it has come to reality.
Kapamilya ‘birit queen’ Morissette and Tanya Manalang, who was discovered through West End’s Miss Saigon, will stage their first major concert together titled, Platinum: World’s Favorite Hit Songs Live! at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila on May 6, Saturday at 8 in the evening.
Coming from a series of concerts with the ASAP Birit Queens in and out of the country, Morissette said that Platinum will be different from her previous ones.
“I’m happy naman po kasi nakapag-rest din naman po ako kasi siyempre, ‘nung Birit Queens, you have to birit. I’m happy kasi here in Platinum, it’s not necessarily all birit pero grabe din ‘yung impact talaga. Of course, we’re talking about hits which are songs people listen to, sing along to, grew up to. It’s a whole different repertoire but I’m very, very excited.”
Meanwhile, Tanya, who has starred in the popular musical play Rak of Aegis, has clearly made a mark in the country’s theater industry.
Talking about the ‘something new’ that she will be offering the audiences in this concert, she admitted, “This is the first time I am singing pop in a major concert and it’s actually really scary.”
“It’s the first time I’m going to do pop because I usually sing musical theater and when I do, it’s kind of easy kasi nandoon na ‘yung pagka-actress ko, eh. So, I put myself in the shoes of the character so it’s easier to channel the song through the character’s journey. This one naman, I’m thinking of a way of how I can make singing pop work but at the same time, still put a certain character into all the songs that I’m gonna do.”
Does she have plans to go mainstream?
“Bahala po kung anong gusto ni Lord. Pero I’m not saying no to that. Actually, I like that. I’d love to do that. It’s just a matter of- number one, if anyone’s gonna absorb me. And number two, if I can handle the eye of the public kasi I am a very, very private person,” she said, admitting it still affects her when she sees herself on video, on a billboard or a newspaper.
Joining them as their special guest is Tawag ng Tanghalan judge, veteran singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid.
He has nothing but praises for the two. “You guys are so talented and you guys have very unique (styles) as I was listening to you earlier and my gosh, I think I should just retire,” he quipped during the press conference.
“I’m just saying that I think the future is there for you to just grab,” Ogie added, advising them to just enjoy their career.
