October might be already over but the intense showdown among the contenders of Tawag Ng Tanghalan Celebrity Champions is not done yet.

Launched last October 7 as a part of the noontime program’s “Sampu-sample” anniversary fete, the special edition of the iconic singing contest has showcased the amazing vocal prowess of celebrities, artists, and former contestants of ABS-CBN reality talent shows. Out of the 72 participants, 18 of them were picked as the daily winners who will advance to the semifinals.

As we anticipate who among them will continue their journey up to the “Ang Huling Tapatan” and will emerge as the first-ever TNT Celebrity Grand Champion, let’s get to know the semi-finalists.

She might be despised on-screen due to her kontrabida roles, particularly as Natalie in Wildflower and young Alba in Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Los Bastardos, but Roxanne Barcelo was indeed a darling as she delivered her mellifluous rendition of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”.

Not only her was the thespian who’s able to break into the semifinals as Gian Magdangal, who was last seen in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano as Executive Secretary Damien Ocampo, and Sheree Bautista, who used to be part of the afternoon soap opera Kadenang Ginto, were also able to get the hurados’ favor with their enthralling performances of “A Million Dreams” and “Big Spender”, respectively.

Former Sineskwela actor Brenan “Agatom” Espartinez, who’s currently a band vocalist and vocal coach, touched our hearts via his performance of Adele’s “When We Were Young”.

Meanwhile, prominent stand-up comedienne and book author Ethel Booba set aside her comic persona for a moment as she delivered her totally astonishing cover of “Help!” by The Beatles.

From delighting us with their voices and zaniness via their respective radio programs, MOR 101.9 DJs Ana Ramsey and DJ Onse (whose real name is Nino Tolentino) then amused us with their singing talents when they stepped on the It’s Showtime stage separately. Ana received a standing ovation for her powerful performance of “Rollin’ On The River”, while DJ Onse amazed in his take on of “Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin”.

Another radio DJ from a competing station and one of the former Songbees of the defunct karaoke game show The Singing Bee, Apple Chiu, thrilled us with her rendition of the classic OPM lovesong “Gaano Ko Ikaw Kamahal”.

Of course, alumni of Kapamilya talent programs also made it to the semifinals.

The Voice Philippines alumni Jason Fernandez, RJ Dela Fuente, Justin Alva, Thor Dulay, and Leah Patricio all landed a spot on the semifinals, the same with Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2 alumna and Resorts World Manila regular performer Cris Pastor and Pilipinas Got Talent Season 1 runner-up turned theater and on-screen actor and radio DJ Markki Stroem.

Jason sang Coldplay’s “The Scientist”, RJ went for “Kahit Kailan”, Thor covered “Lately”, and Leah belted out “Inseparable”. On the other hand, The Voice Kids Season 3 runner-up Justin pierced our hearts with his performance of Calum Scott’s “Dancing On My Own”.

Meanwhile, Cris rocked the stage with her powerful rendition of Aegis’ “Luha” and Markki got us completely smitten with him as he sang “Careless Whisper”.

From conquering Little Big Star Season 1 as Junior Division’s “Brightest Star” in 2005 and the world stage in 2009 through her appearances on The Elllen De Generes Show and the World Championship of the Performing Arts (WCOPA), Rhap Salazar recently dominated the TNT Celebrity Champions as his rendition of “Jealous” received a standing ovation from the hurados.

Miss Q & A Season 1 first runner-up Matrica “Matmat” Centino proved that she’s not only beauty and brains after she astounded us with her interpretation of “Cabaret” that got everyone grooving and erupting from their seats.

Who among them will be declared as the first-ever Tawag ng Tanghalan Celebrity Grand Champion? Let’s all find out by tuning in to It’ Showtime!
