The world briefly stops for a moment once every year to honor fathers all around the world. Fathers who work tirelessly to provide for their families, fathers who would do just about anything for their children and fathers who may have had a stressful day at work but still come home with a smile plastered on their faces. They always say that a girl’s first love is her father and that no one can ever measure up to a father’s love. Most fathers do not show their love through affectionate words or hugs but instead they leave at the crack of dawn and come home right before midnight with their wrinkled clothes as testament for the tiring day they’ve had at work.
In ABS-CBN’s hit Kapamilya Gold teleserye, Kadenang Ginto, Marga Bartolome (Andrea Brillantes) may have frequent misunderstandings with her father, Carlos Bartolome (Adrian Alandy) but nothing is as powerful as a father’s love. Carlos tend to overwork himself and devote all his time on his career, but he always makes sure to spend time with her only daughter and make her understand that he’s doing everything to give Marga the life that she deserves. In celebration of Father’s Day this year, let’s look back on how Carlos have showed his love for Marga.
1. Carlos teaches Marga valuable life lessons
Carlos gave a heartfelt speech during Cassie (Francine Diaz) and Marga’s joint birthday celebration. He said that he compensates for the things that he cannot afford to buy for Marga by teaching her valuable life lessons that she will be able to use in the future.
2. Carlos is sensitive to Marga’s feelings
During Carlos and Daniela’s (Dimples Romana) argument about attending a marriage therapy, Marga enters the room to ask if they were fighting again but Carlos denied it and said that they were simply talking. At breakfast, Marga is surprised to see her mom taking care of her and Carlos’ needs instead of leaving early for work. She longingly wished for things to stay the same and in return, her parents promised that they will spend more time with her.
3. Carlos takes blame for Marga’s actions
Robert (Albert Martinez) explained to Marga that one’s status or surname are not equivalent to respect but instead it depends on how one treats others. Carlos interrupted their conversation to ask for forgiveness on behalf of what Marga has done to Cassie. At home, Carlos apologized on how their arguments have affected Marga’s actions. He pointed out that Marga should be matured enough to admit her mistakes and face the consequences of his actions instead of blaming others.
4. Carlos is happy for Marga’s good deeds
Carlos saw Marga limping due to a wound on her legs and immediately asked what happened. Kristoff (Kyle Echarri) eavesdropped on their conversation and told Carlos on how Marga saved Cassie from their classmates’ bullying antics. Carlos was overjoyed to hear the story and told Marga that they should celebrate her good deed. In the mall, Marga saw his dad worrying if he had enough money for the watch that she wanted, and she quickly reassured that bonding with him is much better than any material thing.
5. Carlos tries to make Marga happy the best way he can
Marga wanted an expensive pair of shoes for Christmas but Carlos said that they couldn’t afford it. During the Mondragon’s Christmas celebration, Robert gave Cassie the exact pair of shoes that Marga wanted and she couldn’t help but feel envious of Cassie. Carlos gave Marga a cheaper pair of shoes to at least try to make Marga happy, but she accepted it with a fake and discontented smile. Daniela promised to buy her better shoes in the future.
6. Carlos would do anything to protect Marga and keep their family together
After Marga’s suicide attempt, Carlos apologized for his shortcomings as a father. He asked for another chance to make up for his shortcomings and mistakes in the past. Carlos decided not to tell the truth about Daniela’s involvement in Romina’s rape case to protect Marga and keep their family together.
7. Carlos trusts, shows affection to Marga
Marga fetched Mikoy (Seth Fedelin) from her dad’s automobile repair shop in a hurry to attend Nadya’s (Danica Ontengco) party. Mikoy told Marga to inform Carlos on where they were going and ask for permission instead of abusing her parents’ trust on her. Marga hugged Carlos before leaving after numerous joking attempts of Mikoy for her to show some affection to her dad, which he appreciated and reciprocated.
Clearly, Carlos wants to be the best dad for Marga, and his fatherly efforts are truly admirable and should be emulated.
