Mabunga Sisters Maris, Kira, and Mutya prove acting brilliance in TV roles

Just like the Mabunga brothers Kiko Estrada, Kid Yambao, Jairus Aquino and Raikko Mateo, their three girl co-stars Maris Racal, Kira Balinger and Mutya Orquia, who will play the Mabunga sisters, will definitely showcase their exceptional acting talent in their upcoming family drama Pamilya Ko. In their career journey as brilliant young actresses, Maris, Kira, and Mutya proved how versatile they are in taking different kind of roles and their hard work showed their eagerness to improve their craft. As their constant development becomes more evident, these girls are certainly destined to shine in the spotlight. Let us look back on their notable television appearances through the years.

After she was hailed as the 2nd Big Placer of Pinoy Big Brother: All In on 2014, Maris was cast as Wendy in the family drama series titled Hawak Kamay that was aired on the same year of her victory. Showing her great potential in acting, she had her very first Maalaala Mo Kaya appearance on the same year. On that said MMK episode titled “Lobo/A Father’s Promise”, she starred with veteran actor Nonie Buencamino and portrayed the selfless daughter named Maila. Before 2014 ended, she’s hailed as the Most Promising Actress in the 1st Star Cinema Online Awards.


Maris continued to rise above everyone’s expectation and with that, her career as an artist skyrocketed up until now. She played as Junalyn Barel in 2015’s daytime comedy-drama series titled Oh My G! She also started to star on Ipaglaban Mo episodes in 2015. Maris appeared on IM episode titled “Inabusong Karapatan” alongside the real life couple Precious Lara-Quigaman and Marco Alcaraz, and IM episode titled “Pinekeng Anyo” with Aleck Bovick and Goin’ Bulilit graduate John Manalo. From 2015 to 2016, she appeared as Niña Buenaflor in the comedy-drama series titled Ningning.


In 2016, Maris started to explore the showbiz industry. She became part of It’s Showtime’s Girl Trends from 2016 to 2017 and became a regular performer on ASAP Natin ‘To from 2016 up to present. She was paired with McCoy De Leon on We Will Survive in 2016, portraying Bonanza / Jennilyn. Before 2016 ended, she guested as the impressive nanny named Letlet in the situational comedy series titled Home Sweetie Home.


The following year, Maris guested as Rona Carreon in the top-rating FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. She also played as a crime witness in Ipaglaban Mo episode titled “Katotohanan” with Rayver Cruz and Jennica Garcia. On Wansapanataym: Annika PINTAsera, she played the role of the mystical creature named Fairy Sylvia. During the final quarter of 2017 until April 2018, she played the supporting role of Vanessa "Nessa" Gonzales on Hanggang Saan, wherein she was paired with Yves Flores in the drama series. In 2018, she gave an outstanding performance as Maya Hermosa in the Ipaglaban Mo episode titled “Kakampi.”


Apart from having many roles on various TV shows, Maris became a regular Maalaala Mo Kaya actress by constantly being seen on the show every year since her first appearance in 2014. She starred as Zyra with Manolo Pedrosa in the 2015 episode “Bottled Water,” played the teenage Emily/Emilia Rodrigo in the 2016 episode “Droga” and portrayed Analyn Telmo in the episode “Toga” that same year. She played as Claudine Barretto and Dominic Ochoa’s daughter named Maymay in the 2016 episode “Luneta Park,” starred as Lou Ann with Iñigo Pascual in the 2017 episode “Tape Recorder” and portrayed the teenage version of Hazel in the 2017 episode “Casa.” Last year, Maris starred with Jameson Blake and Neil Coleta in the episode “Ukelele.” Earlier this year, she reunited with McCoy De Leon as Carol Gutierrez in the MMK episode titled “Stationery.


Soon, we will see Maris as the sweet princess of the Mabunga family named Peachy on Pamilya Ko.

It was in the 2016 romantic drama series titled The Story of Us, which was topbilled by Kim Chiu and Xian Lim, where Kira first showed us her brilliance in acting. Portraying the character of Caitlyn Morrison, she appeared as the younger sister of Kim’s character, Cristine "Tin" Manalo.


In 2016, Kira also started to appear as one of the performers on ASAP Natin ‘To, hosting the ASAP Chillout segment. Still during the same year until the next, she became part of the family melodrama series The Greatest Love, playing the role of Waywaya "Y" Soledad, she appeared as the best friend turned girlfriend of Zosimo "Z" Cruz, played by Joshua Garcia.


In 2017, Kira paired with Yves Flores in the Ipaglaban Mo episode titled “Tali.” The following year, she starred again on Ipaglaban Mo with Neil Coleta and Alex Medina in the episode  “Eskapo.” Later in 2018, she reunited with Yves Flores in the MMK episode “Pilat” as Star Hunt Dreamer Mary Grace Abrugar. In February this year, she was paired with Jairus Aquino in her guest role on Wansapanataym presents: Mr. CUTEpido.


Far from the roles she played, we will see a conservative and somehow old-fashioned yet artsy Kira as the Mabunga sister Lemon on Pamilya Ko.

Way back in 2010, Mutya made her debut on television by appearing as the young Sabel, which was later played by Jessy Mendiola. With her outstanding performance, she bagged the titular role in the 2011 fantasy series Pablo S. Gomez’s Mutya. She gained prominence for the role and consequently, her character’s name on the show became her stage name.


As a sensational child star, Mutya constantly appeared on the long running fantasy anthology Wansapanataym. She starred as Joy in Wansapanataym presents Joy’s Toys on 2011, played as Maya in Maya Akasya on 2012, and played as Super Sandok in Sandy and the Super Sandok on 2012. That same year, she also started her journey as a Goin’ Bulilit mainstay until in March 2019.


In 2012, Mutya played the ‘baby’ Abigail Ruth "Abby" Lim in Be Careful with My Heart. During the show’s run from 2012 up to 2014, the daytime teleserye gained recognitions from different award-giving bodies. For her performance in the show, Mutya won Best Child Performance in the 4th FMTM Awards for TV Entertainment, and Most Popular Female Child Performer in 2014’s GMMSF Box-Office Entertainment Awards.


In 2015, Mutya continued to star on Wansapanataym mini series titled Kung Fu Chinito as Chloe Calasiao and Christmas Witch as the Christmas Fairy. However, she also started to take on dramatic roles in Maalaala Mo Kaya. She played as Rain in 2015’s episode titled Camera and starred as Jillan "Jill" Robredo in the 2016 episode titled “Toothbrush” (VP Leni Robredo’s life story). Her final appearance on Wansapanataym before the said show ended was as Reyna the Fairy in the 2016 mini series titled “Holly and Mau.”


Mutya guested as Val in Home Sweetie Home in 2017 where she appeared with her Goin’ Bulilit friends Clarence Delgado and Allyson McBride. The same year, she appeared as Benjie Paras’ daughter named Jessica in the Ipaglaban Mo episode titled “Patol.”


Throughout her acting career on television, Mutya frequently played young roles to lead female characters on various shows. She played as the young Kim Chiu in My Binondo Girl on 2011, the young Melissa Ricks in Nasaaan Ka Elisa? on 2011 to 2012. From 2015 to 2017, she appeared on the MMK episodes “Sanggol,” “Paru-paro,” “Ice Candy,” “Jumper,” and “Bibliya,” and the teleseryes Wildflower, The Promise of Forever, The Good Son, and Asintado.


Now, we are about to see Mutya as the bubbly little sister named Cherry of the Mabunga family on Pamilya Ko.
