Throughout its 13 year-run, our Pinoy Big Brother viewing habit has never been complete without hearing the resonating opening remark “Hello, Philippines and hello, world!” by its most enduring presenter Toni Gonzaga who has been spearheading the show since its debut in 2005.

And we’re about to hear that again soon as she is set to reprise her duty as the main host of its eighth season, dubbed PBB Otso. She will be accompanied by her younger sister Alex Gonzaga and PBB alumni Melai Cantiveros, Kim Chiu, and Robi Domingo, who are also the hosts of Star Hunt: The Grand Audition Show.

As Big Brother opens his house anew to welcome the latest batch of housemates, we’ll either hate or love, let’s recall the other celebrities who amused us as PBB’s gregarious hosts in the past 13 years.

“Kuya’s Angels”

While she is considered as the pioneer and the most constant presenter, the Multimedia Superstar’s companion in every edition seemed to continually change over the years with Bianca Gonzalez-Intal and Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla as her most frequent co-hosts. Thus, their trio was aptly tagged as “Kuya’s Angels”, inspired by the classic blockbuster "Charlie’s Angels."

Mariel had been in the show since Day 1, helming either the late-afternoon spin-off Über or the late-night version UpLate. However, she was missed by the avid viewers PBB when she took a five-year hiatus – from the Unlimited edition to All-In. She made a comeback in 2015 through the sixth season called 737, joining Toni, Bianca, Robi, and new host-turned-house guest Enchong Dee.

The 34-year-old host also became the first-ever house guest, and the longest tenured after staying inside the house for 73 days, during the second serving of the Celebrity edition. She was surprisingly joined by Toni, who was tasked by Kuya to do a special mission for him for four days, more than a week after her delighting entrance.

On the other hand, Bianca began her stint as a PBB presenter after her second runner-up finish on the first-ever Celebrity edition. Like Mariel, she was tasked to spearhead either the Über or the UpLate, and tapped to do the Updates from time to time.

We’re able to witness their heartwarming reunion in 2015 inside the famous house’s confession room, wherein Kuya expressed his sincerest and hugest gratitude for the three amazing women who played a significant role in the success of the show.

There’s no announcement yet if they’ll go back to hosting PBB. Bianca just gave birth to her second child with basketball player husband JC Intal last October 29, 2018, while Mariel is currently one of the hosts of noontime show It’s Showtime and is a hands-on mom to her unica hija with Robin Padilla, Maria Isabella. But everyone are wishing for the reunion of this original trio!

Other Celebrity Hosts

Apart from Toni, Mariel, and Bianca, there were other Kapamilya artists who joined them as co-presenters.

Arguably, some of us who fervently watched the reality show from the very beginning might have forgotten this, but seasoned host and former ABS-CBN talent Willie Revillame, accompanied Mariel and Toni every nomination and eviction night and on the Big Night.

Substituting him during the Celebrity Edition 1 inauguration was bankable host Luis Manzano, who later on returned to accompany Kuya’s Angels until the Big Night and as the alternate host/co-host of Toni for the primetime episodes of the Teen Edition Plus.

First regular season second placer Jayson Gainza also showed his hosting chops when he was tapped to be the master-cum-adjudicator of the memorable “Teen Debate” between first Teen Edition housemates Gerald Anderson and Mikee Lee. Besides, he also became the “Man of the Street” reporter during the second regular edition.

Right after winning the Big Winner title, Season 2 housemate Bea Saw immediately showcased her hosting flair when she had her debut as the PBB Updates reporter.

A fresh face graced our screens as Martin Concio, together with Teen Edition Plus alumnus Robi Domingo, completed the roster of hosts led by Toni and Bianca for the Unlimited edition.

Martin now works as one of the gregarious disc jockeys and love gurus of the network’s FM radio station MOR 101.9. Meanwhile, Robi remains as one of the top-caliber and most sought-after television and events presenter and took the helm on ASAP, ASAP Chillout, The Kids’ Choice, and Star Hunt: The Grand Audition Show. He is set to reunite with Toni for the highly anticipated PBB Otso.

Celebrity Edition 1 runner-up John Prats replaced Martin as one of the hosts of the Teen Edition 4 in 2012.

After a year, the fifth season kicked off with Toni, Robi, and Bianca as the presenters. Its online late-night counterpart dubbed PBB All-In Übertime was compered by Unlimited Big Winner Slater Young and Teen Edition 4 alumnae Joj and Jai Agpangan.

Alex Gonzaga and Enchong Dee also became hosts, but their gigs got short-lived after being invited by Kuya to be his house guests for All-In and 737, respectively. But the latter went on with his hosting job as the “Homeboy ni Kuya” as soon as he went outside, giving the viewers updates regarding the latest happenings inside the house.

Don’t miss the pilot episode of PBB: Otso this coming November 10 not to only welcome the newest batch of housemates, but the fresh roster of hosts as well!
