John Mark Yap June 09,2017 04:18 PM

It’s always amazing to find children who, even at a very young age, are talented, whether it be academics, sports, or the arts. What’s truly exceptional however is to find an individual who excels at more than one, if not many, of these. Sheena Belarmino from Visayas certainly fits this mold. At the age of 11, Sheena has already set out to accomplish greatness in various fields and her participation in Tawag ng Tanghalan Kids is certainly one of them. Let’s watch as she trail blazes a path of brilliance on and off the stage.

Sheena is certainly a star student. This Visayas native is a high achiever in school, sports, dancing, theater, and singing. Her parents are definitely proud of her achievements, and her mother remains to be her number one fan. Her mother has focused most of her time on her since all her other siblings have grown up and have their own families already. On the other hand, Sheena’s father, a mechanical engineer, is her hero. Though Sheena has tried many disciplines, participating in plays, dance competitions, and various sports, she is still most passionate about singing. This young achiever wishes to continue to accomplish more through this competition.

Sheena started out strong singing an electrifying cover of Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song,” instantly catching the attention of the judges with her powerful vocals. Her voice was unstoppable and she easily snatched the golden microphone from then defending champion, Justine Tan.

For her first defense of the title, Sheena performed her version of “Anak” by Freddie Aguilar. Her keen understanding of the song and her melodious voice was more than enough to secure her crown.

Her second time to defend her spot proved no different from her other performances. Boasting a powerful voice and commanding performance, Sheena sang Jennifer Hudson’s “I Need A Hand” and made it her own.

Another Jennifer Hudson classic, “And I Am Telling You,” was Sheena’s choice for her third time to defend her title. Delivering another masterful performance that’s surprising for her age, she achieved her third consecutive win.

A commanding stage presence and powerful vocals are what we’ve come to expect when Sheena comes up to the stage. Her next performance was no different when she sang Beyoncé’s “Listen.” Her passionate singing sent all of her challengers home and she advanced to the semi-finals.

It is certain that Sheena is destined for greatness. Her passion and drive to sing can be felt with every note she belts out. Will she achieve another win? Don’t miss the Grand Finals of Tawag ng Tanghalan Kids on It’s Showtime, this Saturday, June 10.
