Globe shows love for local content through its partnerships with iWant and iflix December 03, 2018 06:03 PM

The entertainment landscape has truly evolved through the years. People have now the liberty to choose what to watch, whenever and wherever, via various streaming platforms. Technology has opened up gateways to new sources of entertainment and paved the way for the expansion of content production in the modern age. Globe recognizes the essence of embracing innovativeness, hence, it ventured into forming partnerships with streaming sites that are playing a massive role in the world of entertainment.

But more than utilizing technology to elevate the entertainment experience of its customers, Globe wants to champion Filipino content creators and express its love for local producers. That’s why on November 13, Globe announced its partnerships with streaming giants iWant and iflix at its “For the Love of Local” event held in Makati, Philippines. With the said partnerships, the telecommunications company is now offering a wide array of local shows, movies, and TV series to its Filipino customers.

“ABS-CBN’s iWant is a great offering. I am even more please that this company has recognized the treasure trove of Filipino content that they have and they decided to release it into this singular app. We have now a single app that will deliver the most Filipino content and what I see here is that ABS-CBN is now functioning as a studio and not simply as a free to air or the leading TV network in the Philippines, or a cable company through Sky Cable. It is really taking what is their most valuable asset in my mind,” Ernest Cu, Globe’s CEO, remarked.

The iWant app offers its users with current and Kapamilya series, movies, music, live concerts and restored Filipino classics. According to  ABS-CBN's OIC-head of Digital Media Division and iWant head Elaine Uy-Casipit, the broadcast company has come a long way in terms of providing content and has really transitioned in the last two years in the OTT space.

“This is all happening because ABS-CBN has realized how much big of an opportunity it is to really dive into this world and embraced the whole disruption of our business on TV, movies and everything else because we know that Filipinos love entertainment. We know that it is really consuming a lot of the data plan, via the free WiFi and the mobile internet, with each and every handset,” Ms. Uy-Casipit stated.

Meanwhile, iflix also houses an impressive Filipino movie library such as I Love You, Hater, Love You To The Stars and Back, Sin Island, The Ghost Bride and Bloody Crayons, alongside iflix Originals like Hot Ones and Live Life With Kris. iflix will also be the streaming platform of Globe’s upcoming Elements: The Series, which is a national singing-songwriting camp with the goal of helping the local music talents to unlock their fullest potential.

“A partner that we’ve been working on for so many months is iflix. I am thankful to have them in our list. The Elements music camp aims to really bring about Filipino artists and to showcase the whole journey of what it took to get to where they are,” Mr. Cu remarked.

Sherwin dela Cruz, iflix country manager, remarked that they have always been trying to find more ways for their content to get to as many hands as possible. “Globe has always been that one that we knew that we would go through ultimately. Three years after we launched, we are now here announcing our partnership with Globe. It is actually very timely because it is not just a distribution partnership. It’s much more than that. It’s Globe Studios, it’s production,” dela Cruz said.

Primetime now means TV anytime you want, anywhere you are. Starting this month, Globe customers can enjoy all the local content they love via video streaming with iWant and iflix. With these partnerships, Globe continues to give the Filipino consumers access to the best in local streaming content.

Globe customers can now enjoy movies and TV shows on iWant and iflix for as low as Php 29 via GoWATCH for Globe customers (2GB of data for videos for 1 day), and for as low as Php 19 via EasyWATCH for TM customers (1GB of data for videos for 1 day).
